The Ministry of Justice has today published the quarterly statistics for October to December 2013. These are the first statistics that are not directly affected by the spike in ET claims prior to the introduction of fees in July 2013.
Whilst previously around 50,000 new claims were received every three months, in the period measured only 9,801 new claims were received.
The number of ET claims varies considerably from month to month and it is not yet clear that this reduction will be sustained, however, there can be no doubt that a great many potential claimants have been discouraged from claiming as a result of the introduction of fees.
